HCMC extends school closure until May 3 due to COVID-19

VGP – Ho Chi Minh City authorities have decided to extend school closure until May 3 due to the novel coronavirus (COVID-19).

April 18, 2020 3:58 PM GMT+7

For students of grades 9 and 12, lessons will continued to be delivered through TV while students of other grades continue e-learning.

Ho Chi Minh City is temporarily identified as one of the 12 provinces and cities with high risk of the virus transmission by the Government, thus it shall have to take drastic measure to counter the COVID-19 outbreak.

On March 29, the municipal authorities decided that over 1.7 million students in the city have seen their prolonged school break extended to April 19 in an effort to staunch the COVID-19.

The Ministry of Education and Training stated schools could be reopened by June 15 at the latest and that graduation exams would commence from August 8-11. The important exam has been pushed back two months from previous years given the historic school closure.

The ministry has devised various measures to help students study online or via televised lessons. It has also held conferences with teachers in localities to guide them in online teaching.

Out of 268 COVID-19 infection cases confirmed so far in Viet Nam, Ho Chi Minh City has 54./.
