The next plan will be implemented between August 15 and September 15 with an aim to put the pandemic under control, Duong told reporters at a press briefing on Friday morning.

Although the number of daily new COVID-19 cases tends to fall over the past days, the pandemic situation still remains complicated in the southern metropolis with more than 3,000 cases per day.

Last Tuesday, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh Ho Chi Minh City to double efforts to control the COVID-19 pandemic prior to September 15. Meanwhile, Binh Duong, Long An and Dong Nai must strive to contain the pandemic before September 1 while other localities currently undergoing social distancing have to put the pandemic under control before August 25.

The city has implemented Prime Minister’s Directive No. 16 on social distancing rules since July 9 and started to impose even more restrictions from July 24 to contain spread of the virus.

With 138,008 local infections documented from April 27 to August 13, it is the current epicenter of Coronavirus in Viet Nam.

Particularly, the city reported daily death toll of 241 on average, according to Duong said./.
