HN celebrates 20th anniversary of “City for Peace” title

VGP – Ha Noi celebrated the 20th anniversary of ‘City for Peace’ title conferred by UNESCO.

Ha Noi's Party Committee Secretary  Hoang Trung Hai, Deputy FM Le Hoai Trung, Chairman of the Ha Noi Municipal People’s Committee Nguyen Duc Chung, Assistant Director-General for Africa Department of UNESCO Firmin Edouard Matoko attended the event. 

Addressing the ceremony, Chairman Chung said that the “City for Peace’ title showed the recognition of the international community on the positive contribution of Ha Noi in the fight for peace and building of a city for peace.

Over the past 20 years, the Party, local administration and people have unceasingly spared no effort to build and develop towards a world of peace. 

Thanks to cultural diversity, improved business climate, stable defence and security, Ha Noi has been well-known worldwide as a safe and friendly destination. 

With achievements over the past two decades, Ha Noi is preparing dossiers to join the UNESCO Creative Cities Network, thus making it easier to popularize its images in diverse areas.

Deputy Foreign Minister and Chairman of the Viet Nam National Commission for UNESCO Le Hoai Trung said over the past more than 1,000 years, Ha Noi has affirmed its position as the country’s political, economic, cultural, scientific-technological centre.

UNESCO’s Assistant Director General for External Relations Firmin Edouard Matoko lauded strides in bilateral cooperation between the UNESCO and Vietnam over the past two decades, and expressed his belief that the city is well-positioned to become a centre of creativity, which is a major component of culture.

On the occasion, the municipal leaders and UNESCO representative pressed the button to inaugurate the website “Ha Noi - Creative City”./.
