Hà Nội determines to reduce air pollution caused by dust and traffic emission

Under a newly-issued plan on mitigating burning issues of environment pollution in Hà Nội, all of the city’s communes and towns, by 2010, will have their own systems of collecting household solid waste which will be properly treated.

The city strives to collect and treat 100% of dangerous medical waste; gather 95% and dispose 70% of industrial solid waste (90% and 60% respectively for dangerous waste matters); collect 95% of building refuse.

Hà Nội also targets to treat 10-15% of the domestic sewage in inner city. Within the last quarter of 2010, water pollution in all lakes will be dealt with.

All construction sites are required to control dust emission.

The total volume of household solid waste in Hà Nội is currently estimated about 5,000 tons/day, including 3,500 tons from urban quarters and 1,500 tons from rural areas. The city also discards about 750 tons of industrial solid waste per day.
