Heading to cooperative and responsible UN Security Council

VNGOP - Việt Nam has quickly caught up with the UN Security Council's (UNSC) highly intensive working style, actively participated in all the meetings, effectively contributed to making all legal documents and tried its best in a joint-effort to build a cooperative and responsible UN Security Council, Head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs' Department for International Organizations Lê Hoài Trung said on April 8 at the meeting with correspondents on Việt Nam's participation in the first quarter at the UNSC as a non-permanent member.

Mr. Trung stressed that in all of its statements and contributions, Việt Nam shows an insistent stance to the principle that the UNSC's activities must be in line with the UN Charter and international laws in respect of independence, sovereignty, and territorial integrity.

In the first quarter of 2008, Việt Nam has actively taken part in and raised its ideas in all the UNSC meetings. It presented a positive attitude in resolving international conflicts and crisis by supporting the extension and consolidation of the UN commissions in East Timor, Kosovo, Ivory Coast, Afghanistan and Sudan, actively rebuilding peace in Afghanistan, advocating overall solutions in legitimate interests of all relevant parties. Many countries have high opinion of Việt Nam's request to consider the Resolution on Iran after the outcome of the International Atomic Energy Agency's report and of its proposal to make the Resolution more equal. Việt Nam was also praised for showing a constructive and cooperative stance on the Kosovo issue.

In Mach  2008, Việt Nam tried its best to consolidate the role of non-alliance countries at the UNSC. As an operator of the group, Việt Nam convinced Russia to bring out to open discussion the anti-terrorism issue, which gave chance for the other countries to raise their voice.
