Health Ministry: Life expectancy at birth in 2020 is 73.7 years

VGP – The life expectancy at birth in Viet Nam in 2020 increased by 0.1 year compared to 2019 to 73.7 years, according to the report of the Ministry of Health at a meeting held on January 6.

Remarkably, Viet Nam has been a spotlight in the Covid-19 prevention work and among the first four countries launching coronavirus gene sequencing. 

Viet Nam has been one of the first five nations successfully studying antigen-testing bio-products and has been listed among the countries starting human trials of Covid-19 vaccine. 

HIV/AIDS has been continuously controlled in Viet Nam, witnessing the 12th successive year of reductions in the numbers of new HIV carriers, HIV carriers developing full-blown AIDS and AIDS-related deaths. 

Viet Nam has been named as the top four countries with the best HIV/AIDS treatment quality. 

The average Vietnamese man is 168.1 cm tall and the average woman is 156.2 cm, up 3.7 cm and 2.6 cm from the figures obtained in 2009, respectively. 

The proportion of undernourished children under five years old was 19.6%, the lowest level as classified by the World Health Organization. 

The fertility rate for Viet Nam in 2020 was 2.12 births per woman while the sex ratio at birth was 112.1 boys per 100 girls. 

The health sector is striving to raise the coverage of health insurance to 91%.
