Health insurance covers 56 million people
VGP – Around 56 million people involved in health insurance by the end of 2011, accounting for 63.7% of the population, according to Head of Health Insurance Department under the Ministry of Health Tong Thi Song Huong.

She said that in 2011, around 11,000 medical establishments signed cooperation deals with social insurance agencies to provide health check-ups for over 114 million people who have health insurance cards.
However, Ms. Huong said that over 6 million workers have yet participated in the health insurance system and 74% of nearly-poor people are free from health insurance, partly due to poor awareness of employers.
To raise people’s awareness of health insurance, the Ministry of Health said it will strive to implement the Law on Health Insurance in the time to come./.
