Health ministry reports two more COVID-19 deaths, total fatalities rise to 15

VGP – Two more COVID-19 cases, aged 66 and 68 (patients numbered 436 and 522), died, increasing the fatalities of the virus in Viet Nam to 15, said Deputy Minister of Health Nguyen Truong Son on late August 10.

Patient 436, a male resident in Da Nang City, entered the end-stage of chronic renal failure and had cardiac arrest several times at Da Nang Hospital. 

From July 6-27, he was treated at the Anti-Poison Active Recovery Department at Da Nang Hospital. The patient was confirmed positive for the coronavirus on July 26. Two days later, he has transferred from Da Nang Hospital to Hue Central Hospital Unit 2. 

From July 29-31, he received intensive resuscitation, invasive mechanical ventilation, and continuous dialysis immediately after admission. On August 2, the patient was deeply sedated, ventilated, treated with ECMO and needed blood transfusion and dialysis. 

On August 10, the patient was in a deep coma, his blood pressure dropped, his heart beat sporadically. He died at 9.00 am on August 10. 

Patient 522, a male native in Quang Nam Province, also had a history of chronic kidney failure besides lung metastatic kidney cancer, and type 2 diabetes mellitus.

On July 9, he was taken to Nephrology and Endocrinology Department, Da Nang Hospital. On July 22, he was returned to Quang Nam Province. 

The patient was tested positive for COVID-19 on July 30. He was taken from Da Nang Hospital to Hue Central Hospital on the following day. 

From July 31-August 5, he suffered deteriorating health conditions, battling against serious shortness of breath, gastrointestinal bleeding and constant high fever. 

On August 10th, the patient was sluggish, his heart beat sporadically, and his blood pressure dropped. He died on 17.30 pm on August 10. 

According to the National Steering Committee for COVID-19 Prevention and Control, no new COVID-19 infection case has been recorded on early August 11. 

Among the 847 COVID-19 patients in Viet Nam, 318 imported cases were sent for medical quarantine upon their arrival. 

Since July 25, 389 cases are linked to Da Nang City. 

As many as 399 COVID-19 patients have been cleared of the virus. 

According to the Da Nang City Department of Health, Da Nang Field Hospital has the capacity of 500 beds, 20 of which are prepared to serve for critically-ill patients.
