How to acquire Vietnamese citizenship and repatriate VN
VNGOP – Recently, numerous overseas Vietnamese have asked about Việt Nam’s regulations on repatriation and expressed their desire to regain Vietnamese citizenship.
Answer (Ministry of Justice): Every overseas Vietnamese who wants to return and resettle in Việt Nam can directly contact to Việt Nam’s diplomatic agencies in their host countries for detailed information and instructions in repatriation procedures.
So far, under the Law on Vietnamese Citizenship, each Vietnamese citizen is permitted to have a single citizenship. Therefore, if any overseas Vietnamese bearing foreign citizenships wants to regain Vietnamese nationality, they are obliged to renounce their foreign citizenships first. The State of Việt Nam is not in charge of solving their renouncement and has no right to interfere in this process.

On August 29, 2007, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs launched the website http://mienthithucvk.mofa.gov.vn providing instructions in regulations and formalities for visas exemption for overseas Vietnamese.
