Human trafficking prevention and eradication to be boosted

VNGOVNet – This is the major target put forth up to 2010 by the Steering Board for the Action Program on Human Trafficking Prevention (Program 130/CP).

A meeting to put the action program on human trafficking prevention, stage II (2007-2010), into reality was held on April 06 in Hanoi to warn again the complicatedly increasing human trafficking in Vietnam in the recent time.

According to the report from the General Department of Police (Ministry of Public Security), Vietnam is not only the place of departure but also an entrepot of human traffic or illegal immigration activities.

Facing this actuality, the Steering Board has closely collaborated with the relevant ministries, sectors and local authorities to stop human trafficking crimes. After two years implementing Program 130/CP, police and border guard forces have detected 445 cases and arrested 790 human traffickers.

Mr. Jesper Morch, Chief Represenative of UNICEF Vietnam, emphasized, Vietnam is a good example of bilateral cooperation in human trafficking prevention, strongly expressing her commitment and determination to eradicate this crime. According to him, it is necessary to set up a more comprehensive solution to deal with the crime. He added that families should be important defence line, and a healthy and stable society will surely help wipe out the evil. Besides, good policies on repatriation and poverty alleviation are also very important part.

Addressing the meeting, Deputy PM Trương Vĩnh Trọng ordered the ministries, sectors and local authorities to focus on dealing with basic issues, analyzing the crime’s nature, causes and conditions, and proposing practical solutions. He requested the crime to be prevented by 2010.
