IMF treasures socio-economic development policies in VN

VGP – The International Monetary Fund (IMF) appraised Việt Nam’s efforts in response to the global economic crisis while managing to create macro-economic stability and the growth impetus, said a senior IMF official.

IMF has always given its priority to the socio-economic performance of Việt Nam, said Mr. Takatoshi Kato, IMF Deputy Managing Director during his courtesy visit to Permanent Deputy PM Nguyễn Sinh Hùng on February 8 in Hà Nội.

The director also promised that the Fund stands ready to provide the Southeast Asian nation with necessary technical assistance in the areas of finance, banking and equitizing of State-owned enterprises (SOEs).     

The visiting guest lauded the Vietnamese Government for its efforts in conducting sound and prompt solutions, creating different economic stimulus packages that helped greatly to stabilize the country’s economy while successfully securing public consensus.  

Mr. Takatoshi Kato called upon the Vietnamese Government to focus more on agricultural sector, rural areas, production and social welfare. 

Việt Nam is willing to discuss financial and banking issues with international experts, especially IMF ones, said Deputy PM Nguyễn Sinh Hùng.

The host leader also expressed his aspiration that the visit of the Managing Director would kick-start a new period of cooperation between Việt Nam and the international organization.

According to the Deputy PM, the Vietnamese Government has gained a lot of experience of strengthening the macro-economic management after going through the recent global economic crisis. The Government pledges to restructure the economy, ensure food and energy security, guarantee social welfare, equitize SOEs and flexibly regulate the financial system, stated Deputy PM Hùng. 

The Deputy PM also asked international organizations and foreign donors to pour more resources for Việt Nam to tackle climate change.
