VGP - Việt Nam will work with the World Health Organization (WHO) and the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) to boost its pharmaceutical production, it was heard at a seminar on the issue on February 14.

February 14, 2012 4:53 PM GMT+7

The delegates to the seminar, held by the Drug Administration under the Vietnamese Health Ministry, agreed that the agreement on pharmaceutical cooperation signed by the Ministry, the WHO and the UNIDO in November 2010 has helped the local pharmaceutical industry gain encouraging results.

That cooperation will be bolstered towards more effectiveness and in the longer term, they said

Vietnamese Deputy Minister of Health Nguyễn Thanh Long said the pharmaceutical industry is still facing many problems.

Many enterprises are producing the same products, their competitiveness is weak and policies are yet workable to encourage the use of local pharmaceuticals…

According to a national development plan till 2015 with a vision to 2020,the industry will meet 70% of local demands for pharmaceutical products by 2015, and 80% by 2020.
