This 4400 MW thermo-power complex is the ever biggest project of its kind, invested by non-State enterprises.

It is listed in the Overall Planning Scheme for Power Development in the period of 2006-2015 which is ratified and granted with guaranteed credit by the Government.

The project was started in July 2007. So far, geological survey, construction planning, compensation for resettlement, report on environmental impacts, infrastructure design for the thermo-power plant and technique solution have been completed.

ITA Group signed with its Russian partner an MoU on coal provision in October and is submitting the basic design to the Ministry of Industry and Trade for approval.

According to Vice General Director of ITA Group Nguyễn Tuấn Minh, the Government will guarantee 80% of the project’s investment capital.

The total stage-1 capital is estimated at US$ 2.5 billion. In the phase 1, Kiên Lương thermo-electricity plant will be built and inaugurated in 2013.

To realize this project, the ITA Group shakes hand with consultant agencies such as Black & Veatch (USA), SEI, FHDI (China) and PECC 2 (Việt Nam) and its strategic partners International Power (UK) and Sojitz & Kuyshu (Japan).
