Considering 2007 as the major year for border demarcation and landmark planting work, the conference focused on assessing the recent work. Many plans and measures were discussed to boost and finish the work by the end of 2008 as agreed by senior leaders of Vietnam, China and Cambodia.

Addressing the conference, Deputy PM Phạm Gia Khiêm said, "Border demarcation and landmark planting are the country's important issues in external and internal affairs, national security and defense, and socio-economic development." He emphasized that this work aims to clearly identify the actual borderline, forming a stable environment to speed up socio-economic development, enhance cross-border transactions, improve people's life in border areas and develop friendship with the neighboring countries.
