Law on cyber security passed

VGP – The law on cyber security was adopted by the National Assembly on June 12 at its on-going fifth session with 86.86% of approval.

Comprising 7 chapters and 47 articles, the law stipulates on activities protecting the national security and ensuring cyber social order and safety and responsibilities of relevant individuals, organizations and agencies. 

The law defines the principles of protecting cyber security including obeying the Constitution and laws,  guaranteeing the interests of the State, legitimate rights and benefits of organizations and individuals under the leadership of the Viet Nam Communist Party and the management of the State. 

It also closely connects the tasks of protecting cyber security and crucial information system on the national security in line with socio-economic development, ensuring human rights, citizen rights and facilitates organizations and individuals to operate at cyber network. 

The law aims to prevent, discover, detect, struggle and defeat all activities that use cyber network to violate the national security, social order and safety and legitimate rights and interests of organizations and individuals as well as prevent threats to cyber security. 

The law will come into effect since January 1, 2019.
