MIT opposes US anti-dumping tax on Vietnamese fish

VGP - Việt Nam's Ministry of Industry and Trade (MIT) has recently rejected the June 15 decision of the United States International Trade Commission (USITC) to continue applying anti-dumping tax on Vietnamese tra and basa fish in the next five years.

MIT’s Deputy Minister Lê Danh Vĩnh was quoted as saying that Vietnamese enterprises have never dumped their goods in the US market.

All the anti-dumping decisions of the US competent bodies issued since 2002 have not reflected the actual production and trading in tra and basa from Việt Nam, he continued.

Once again, Việt Nam requires the US authorities to lift their biased decisions which are against the basic principles of the World Trade Organization (WTO) where both Việt Nam and the US are equal members, Mr. Vĩnh stressed.

He stated that the USITC’s decision will certainly produce negative impacts on Việt Nam's aquaculture.

Not only Vietnamese tra and basa exporters are affected, US enterprises and consumers will have fewer options of purchase at cheaper prices, said the Vietnamese Deputy Minister.

Amid the global financial crisis, protectionist decisions on anti-dumping tax pursued by some US authorities and agencies will worsen international trade and go in opposition to President Barack Obama-advocated policy on anti-protectionism, Mr. Vĩnh concluded.

Since 2003, the US has imposed the anti-dumping tax on Vietnamese tra and basa fish up to 66.34%.
