Many activities to commemorate heroic martyrs

VGP – On the occasion of the 62nd anniversary of the Day of Martyrs and War Invalids (July 27, 1947–July 27, 2009), many activities were held throughout the country in memory of the nation’s eminent children who sacrificed their life for the motherland.

In the morning of July 27, leaders of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Việt Nam, the State, National Assembly, Government and the Việt Nam Fatherland Front Central Committee laid wreaths at the Monument of Heroic Martyrs in Hà Nội.
They also paid tribute to President Hồ Chí Minh at his mausoleum.

Many commemorative activities have been done to honor martyrs and war invalids on the occasion of their traditional day.

Receiving veterans from the central province of Quảng Trị on Sunday, State President Nguyễn Minh Triết stressed that the Party, State and people are always grateful to martyrs, war invalids and their families.
PM Nguyễn Tấn Dũng pays homage to martyrs in the Cần Thơ City Military Cemetary, Cần Thơ City, July 27
Also on Sunday, July 26, PM Nguyễn Tấn Dũng paid a visit to the Martyrs’ Cemetaries of the southern province of Kiên Giang and the southern city of Cần Thơ.
The cemeteries of Cần Thơ City and Kiên Giang Province are the resting place of 3,300 and 4,500 martyrs respectively.
The ritual hall and the wreath laying quay were inaugurated at the historical Thạch Hãn River in the central province of Quảng Trị on July 26 in order to commemorate over 10,000 heroes and martyrs laid down their life at the River and the ancient Quảng Trị Citadel in the Spring-Summer 1972 Operation.

At the inauguration ceremony, people, soldiers and enterprises throughout the country donated Quảng Trị VND 64 billion to support Heroic Vietnamese Mothers and embellish local historical and revolutionary sites.
On July 25, many leaders of the Party, State, Government, ministries and local governments visited and offered gifts to war invalids, families of martyrs, heroic Vietnamese mothers, and veterans.
A grand requiem was solemnly organized at the National Cemetary Road 9 in Quảng Trị Province in the July 25 morning to pray for the peace of martyrs’ soul.
