Maternity leave increased to six months

VGP – The maternity leave in Vietnam will be extended to six moths from the current four months in order to ensure better care for mothers and children, according to the newly-approved Labor Code (revised).

Where a female gives birth to more than one child at one time, she shall be entitled to an additional one-month leave for every additional child calculated from the second child onwards.

The retirement ages remain unchanged with 60 years of age in case of males and 55 years of age in case of females.

The retirement age of an employee who works in heavy or toxic jobs, or in mountainous regions, in border regions, or on offshore islands, and in a number of other special cases shall be determined by the Government.

The Labor Code is to take effect from May 1, 2013.
