Mekong Delta Region lures US$ 7.21 bln in FDI

VGP – In 2014, the Mekong Delta region attracted US$ 7.21 in FDI, accounting for 35.9% of the country’s total amount, according to the Foreign Investment Agency (FIA).

This year, the region granted new investment licenses to 644 projects and permitted 283 others to expand their capital by US$ 7.21 billion.
 
The Mekong Delta Region was also the largest FDI absorber in 2014.
 
As of mid-December, the region was home to 9,764 valid FDI projects with a total registered capital of US$ 114.95 billion. It also accounted for 56% of the country’s total project number and 45.8% of registered capital.
 
Ho Chi Minh City took the lead by luring 5,196 projects valuing US$ 38 billion of registered capital; followed by Ba Ria-Vung Tau province and Dong Nai province.
 
Foreign investors chiefly focused on manufacturing and processing with 5,411 projects worth US$ 57.6 billion; real estate with 240 projects, US$ 27.18 billion.
 
So far, 86 foreign countries and territories have set foothold in the region.
 
Singapore was the largest FDI investor with 962 projects with a total registered capital of US$15.31 billion./.
