MoIT acknowledges lack of initiatives in welcoming solar power wave

VGP – Minister of Industry and Trade Tran Tuan Anh admitted that the ministry has failed to take necessary steps to relieve wattage of solar power projects.

Minister of Industry and Trade Tran Tuan Anh

Minister Tuan Anh made the point on November 6 in response to a question of a NA’s deputy on the overloading of the grid system.

Mr. Tuan Anh attributed the problem to the increasing number of solar power projects in comparison with the 4th Power Planning in 2017. The MoIT was unable to anticipate the development of solar power with the price at US$ 9.35 cents for rooftop solar power.

Regarding the solar price, Minister Tuan Anh attributed the price at the potential power shortage in the 2019-2020 period.

With the price of 9.35 cents per kWh, by June 30, 2019, 4,900 MW solar power projects have been put into operation.

However, Minister Tuan Anh acknowledged that fast solar power development has caused the overloading of the grid system.

Solar power projects are heavily located at high radiation provinces such as Ninh Thuan and Binh Thuan, leading to the difficulties in solar power relief.

The MoIT reported the problem to the Government and applied for 15 line and substation projects with a view that by 2020, 60-70% of solar power wattage would be completely relieved./.
