Mobile Internet users on the rise

VGP - The use of mobile Internet is increasing, expected to make a boom next year, according to market research company Nielsen Việt Nam.

July 22, 2011 7:01 PM GMT+7

41% mobile phone users in Việt Nam have Internet access.

According to the firm’s survey, the mobile Internet in Việt Nam is most promising in the region with three fourths of consumers planning to use mobile Internet in the next 12 months and 46% of the questioned people planning to buy smart phones next year.

Now, only two out of five users in Việt Nam surf the Internet on mobile phones, the lowest rate in Southeast Asia. Only 21% of users own Internet-access mobile phones.

Việt Nam has a big population of bloggers with 96% of Internet users joining at least one social network. Over four out of five people, or 79%, have already tagged “like” or “follow” a brand, a company or a celebrity, while the average rate in the region is 69%.

According to the survey, 58% Internet users trust online appraisals on social networks, and 81% use social networks as a consulting channel for shopping.

According to Nielsen Vietnam, Vietnamese people are keen on using the latest technologies in general and smart phones in particular.

However, Việt Nam should upgrade mobile infrastructure and services, and lower service charges, it said.
