Regarding the amendments to the current Law on environmental protection, the participants said that it is enough to stipulate that the law should be applicable to all organizations, households, and individuals across Viet Nam.

Some members of the Standing Committee stressed that the evaluation of environmental impacts needs to be conducted under two steps but it may lead to higher costs and is a waste of time.

The majority of the participants agreed on adding more provisions to clearly define the imported types of scraps as well as technical criteria. The granting of licenses for importing scraps must also be tightened or considered carefully.

The National Assembly Standing Committee also discussed on other important points, including environmental planning, marine environment protection, and State management.

The amendments to the Law on environmental protection will continue to be further studied before submitting to the Legislature for approval./.
