NA deputies urged to select competent personnel

Addressing the opening ceremony of the first session of the 13^th National Assembly (NA) on July 21, Mr. Nguyễn Phú Trọng stressed that the 13^th NA shoulder a great responsibility for continuing with and bringing into play the achievements and experience of the previous NA tenures, and closely following policies and orientations of the Party as well as the realities of everyday life.

“We should continue to comprehensively speed up reforms in all fields with higher quality and efficiency, including the construction and perfection of the Socialist rule-of-law State, considering it a decisive factor to ensure the successful national construction and protection,” he said.

Party General Secretary and National Assembly Chairman Nguyễn Phú  Trọng also proposed the NA focus on building and perfecting the synchronous, unified and feasible law system.

To this end, it is necessary to closely follow orientations of the Party as well as realities of everyday life, continue to strengthen capacity and enhance legislation quality, reform law-making procedures, and ensure democracy, enforcement, openness and transparency of the legal system.

Besides, the NA should improve the quality and efficiency of its surveillance works to timely detect shortcomings or wrongdoings and make proposals on amendments or supplementations to policies and mechanisms…, Mr. Nguyễn Phú Trọng said.

The NA should also reform the question and answer sessions at its plenary sessions as well as at the NA Standing Committee’s meetings to thoroughly analyze the issues they debated along with clarifying their causes, effects, and those or organizations that may hold responsibility for and putting forth effective mending measures.

In addition, it should take stronger responsibility for decisions on national key issues it had adopted, especially those regarding socio-economic development, the state budget, and the state apparatus, he emphasised

The NA Chairman asked the deputies to be virtuous, industrious, thrifty, incorruptible, selfless, and determined to fight against all wrongdoings, red-tape, corruption, extravagancy and other social vices.
