NA ratifies Vietnam’s entry into WTO

To open the session, President Nguyễn Minh Triết delivered a statement seeking the NA approval of the country’s entry into WTO. He called this event an important landmark in Vietnam’s process of international economic integration and an international acknowledgment of the country’s successful renovation.

The President said that on November 7, the Vietnamese Minister of Trade and the WTO Director-General had signed the Protocol on Vietnam’s Joining the World Trade Organization. The contents of this protocol had already been stated in the Government’s earlier statement. The Protocol’s Point 8 says that the document will come into effect on the 30^th day of approval by the Socialist Republic of Vietnam National Assembly. To complete the legal procedures needed, on November 15, 2006, the Government sent Statement 150 to the President, seeking his ratification of the Protocol.

Being aware of the Protocol’s significance and pursuant to Article 103, Item 10 and Article 84, Item 13 of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam’s revised 1992 Constitution and Article 32, Items 1 and 2 of the 2005 Law on Signing, Joining and Implementing International Conventions, the NA voted to ratify the Protocol with the majority of approval.
