NGOs pledge US $165.5 million for VN

VGP – As many as 95 Non-governmental Organizations have committed to providing US $165.5 million for Việt Nam’s poverty reduction programs in 2012.

The commitment was made at a ceremony to in Hà Nội on November 17 to honor foreign individuals and NGOs for their contributions to peace, solidarity, friendship, poverty reduction and development in Việt Nam this year.

At the event, the Việt Nam Union of Friendship Organisations (VUFO) presented certificates of merit to 121 individuals and NGOs.

This year, NGOs pledged more than US $270 million to assist Việt Nam in the fields of healthcare, community development, assisting rural areas, social issues, education, emergency aid, environmental protection and solutions to mitigate climate change impact.

Over the past decade, foreign NGOs have provided nearly US $1.7 billion in non-refundable aid to Việt Nam, focusing on the fields of economic development, healthcare, education, poverty reduction, social issues, the overcoming of the aftermath of war, and rescue and disaster prevention mainly in disadvantaged regions.
