National Culture Festival kicked off in HN

VGP - The 2008 Nationwide Festival of Cultural Exchange was launched on October 06 in Hà Nội to welcome the Liberation Day of the Capital (October 10, 1054). This is also the first among various cultural, sports and tourist events toward the 1000th anniversary of Thăng Long-Hà Nội.

October 07, 2008 2:21 PM GMT+7

Hosted by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, People’s Committees of Hà Nội and 20 other provinces, the Festival, with numerous activities held across Hà Nội, Hà Đông and Sơn Tây Cities, aims at honoring cultural identities of the Vietnamese nation, introducing cultural distinctions of different regions and ethnic groups, and highlighting Việt Nam’s potentialities in tourism.

The five major activities include: (1) an exhibition of cultural distinctions of different regions, (2) traditional art and cultural performances, (3) traditional festivals and folk games, (4) traditional dress shows, and (5) introduction of Thăng Long’s gastronomy.

The cultural exhibition – the kick-starter of the festival

Covering 600 square meters, the exhibition held by the Museum of Vietnamese Ethnic Culture, displays cultural values of different areas, from the Red River Delta, Northern mountains to the Central Highlands and the Mekong Delta.

The Việt Nam Museum of Fine Arts contributes to the exhibition with a collection of folk paintings of different schools (Hàng Trống, Kim Hoàng, Đông Hồ, Làng Sình) and of different ethnic minorities.

“Thăng Long Culture – Convergence and shining” Gala as the festival’s star turn

Taking place on October 7 at the Hà Nội Opera House Square, the performance showcases the Thăng Long culture, with some art and fashion shows.

Specially, the beauty and cultural-historical values of Thăng Long-Hà Nội will be impressively illustrated through the displays “Hà Nội’s cultural space: Past and present” and “Thăng Long’s gastronomy.”
