National plan on natural disaster prevention approved

The plan aims to enhance State management on natural disaster prevention and raise social self-reliance in natural disaster prevention; utilize all resources; combine natural disaster prevention and synchronous development of infrastructure.

Especially, the plan targets to perfect the legal system; upgrade equipment used in the natural disaster prevention, search, and cure; mitigate the loss of lives and prosperities from droughts, flooding, landslides, tropical depression, river and coastal erosion. 

Viet Nam is one of the countries hardest hit by disasters as it records 300 deaths and missing as well as loses an average of around 1-1.5% of its gross domestic product (GDP) to natural disasters each year/.
