New chapter in VN-Tunisia relations

VGP - The first visit of the Vietnamese head of state to Tunisia since the establishment of their diplomatic ties in 1972 has opened up a new chapter in the friendly and all-round cooperative relations between the two countries.

On April 12 (VN time), State President Nguyễn Minh Triết arrived in the capital city of Tunis, starting his State visit to Tunisia at the invitation of President Zeine Al-Abidine Ben Ali.

When holding talks with the host counterpart, President Triết confirmed that Việt Nam always attaches great importance to developing relations with Tunisia and considers it one of priority partners in North Africa.

For his part, President Zeine Al-Abidine Ben Ali said the Vietnamese State President’s visit is a historic event which opens up a new chapter in the friendly and multifaceted cooperative ties between the two countries. He said Tunisia treasures the relations with Việt Nam, one of priority countries in Southeast Asia.

The two leaders also discussed specific measures to foster bilateral cooperation in such fields as oil and gas, commerce, agriculture and tourism.

On the occasion, leaders of Vietnamese ministries and sectors met with their Tunisian counterparts to put forth measures for stronger bilateral cooperation in many spheres.

After the talks, State President Triết attended and made a speech at the Việt Nam–Tunisia Business Forum where he called upon the host enterprises to Việt Nam for business and investment activities.
