Deputy PM Dung made the point on October 17 while leading a Government’s delegation to inspect some renewable energy projects in Ninh Thuan and work with local leaders.

The meeting also drew the attendance of Minister of Natural Resources and Environment Tran Hong Ha, representatives from the Ministry of Industry and Trade, the Commission of the Management of State Capital in Enterprises.

Chairman of the Ninh Thuan provincial People’s Committee Luu Xuan Vinh reported that in 2018, the local electricity output hit 636.3 million kWh, representing a year-on-year growth of 11.5%. In the 2011-2015 period, average electricity output yearly grew 9.75%. In the 2016-2018 period, the figure was 7.35%. As of late September, total output of renewable energy was about 1,150 MW including 1,040 MW of solar power and 110 MW of wind power.

By 2030, total power output is projected at about 4,040 MW.

As of June 30, 2019, the province operated 19 renewable energy projects with a total output of 1,050 MW including 15 solar power projects (971 MW) and four wind power projects (79.4 MW).

Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade Dang Hoang An suggested the Electricity of Viet Nam work with the local authorities to release power for renewable energy plants; early finalize investment procedures to attract more social engagement on the field.

Addressing the event, Deputy PM Dung praised the southern province for making use of advantages to develop renewable energy especially solar and wind energy. Especially, over one year, over 1,000 MW of clean power was generated, serving to ensure national energy safety and local socio-economic development.

However, the province is coping with difficulties including releasing power for renewable energy plants.

Hence, the Government leader called upon Ninh Thuan to optimize opportunities and advantages to become a national renewable energy hub especially in solar and wind energy.

Ninh Thuan connects the southeast, south central and Central Highlands regions, with the largest potential for solar and wind power development in the country.

Earlier, the Government issued Resolution No.115/NQ-CP dated August 31, 2018 on special mechanisms and policies to facilitate Ninh Thuan’s socio-economic development and stabilize local lives for the 2018-2023 period. Accordingly, the Government approved the plan to turn Ninh Thuan into a renewable energy hub of the country./.
