VGP – Deputy PM Nguyen Xuan Phuc, Head of the Northwest Steering Committee urged the Northwestern provinces to exploit their forest and mineral resources in an effective and sustainable manner.

The Deputy PM made the point on July 16 at the Committee’s meeting to review performance in the first half of 2012 and launch tasks for second half.

With 14 provinces and 10 million of people, the Northwest is the poorest region across the country, thus Deputy PM Phuc asked the Committee to propose effective measures to pull down the poverty rate here.

At the same time, the region needs to pay due attention to ensuring security and order and improving living standard for ethnic minorities to keep them awake to hostile forces’ plots.

Report shows that region’s economy expanded 7.28% in the first half. Its total export value reached more than US $2.2 billion, up 2.6%
