Over 1,000 delegates attend World Congress of Esperanto

VGP - Over 1,000 delegates from 62 countries attended the 97th World Congress of Esperanto, held for the first time in Vietnam.

The congress was held by the Vietnam Union of Friendship Organizations, the Vietnam Esperanto Association and the Universal Esperanto Association (UEA).

Addressing the event’s opening ceremony on July 29 in Hanoi, Vice President Nguyen Thi Doan said that Vietnam is a friend, a reliable and a responsible member of the community, and that Esperanto is hoped to continue to be an international language that connects people of nations in the world for peace, development and cooperation.

At the congress, UEA President Probal Dasgupta said he believes Esperanto will continue to become widespread in many countries, including Vietnam. Esperanto will continue to be an international language to become a culture bridge of peace-loving people on the planet.

The program named “Vietnam Day”, an activity of the Congress, opened on July 29.

Mr. Nguyen Van Loi, Chairman of the Vietnam Esperanto Association, introduced delegates about Vietnam’s unique landscapes and cultural values.
