At the meeting, the PM suggested the two nations further promote bilateral cooperation more comprehensively by increasing the exchange of delegations and setting up periodic exchange mechanisms, firstly the joint committee as agreed in the Frame Agreement on Technical and Economic Cooperation.

He said ministries and representative agencies of the two countries need to work harder to regain the growth momentum in trade and investment, and expand cooperation in potential areas such as agriculture, fishing and oil and gas.

Mr. Soares affirmed to soon complete procedures for the implementation of the newly-inked bilateral trade agreement and launch negotiations for the signing of a bilateral investment agreement.

Timor-Leste will create more favorable conditions for Vietnamese businesses, including Viettel Military Industry and Telecoms Group, to operate in the country, he affirmed.

PM Phuc spoke highly of cooperation between the two nations at regional and international forums such as the United Nations, and thanked Timor-Leste for its commitment to backing Viet Nam’s candidacy for a non-permanent seat in the UN Security Council in the 2020-2021 term.

The same day, Deputy PM, FM Pham Binh Minh received Chilean FM Roberto Ampuero Espinoza and Foreign Secretary of Bangladesh Md. Shahidul Haque who have been in Viet Nam to attend the World Economic Forum on ASEAN (WEF ASEAN) 2018.

At the meeting with the Chilean FM, Mr. Minh asserted that VietNam considers Chile one of its most important partners in the Latin America region, expressing his delight on the strong growth in the Viet Nam-Chile comprehensive partnership over recent years.

Chile wants to boost relations with Viet Nam, as well as the ASEAN member countries in general, said Mr. Roberto Ampuero Espinoza, suggesting that the two sides reinforce and promote progress in trade cooperation, while expanding investment collaboration between the two countries.

The two sides agreed to increase the exchange of high-level delegations; bolster economic, trade, and investment ties; while supporting small- and medium-sized enterprises in accessing each other’s market; and enhancing people-to-people exchanges.

They pledged to cooperate closely at multilateral forums, especially the APEC forum, and in the process of approving and implementing the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP).
