PM Dung holds talks with Algerian counterpart

VGP - PM Nguyen Tan Dung and his Algerian counterpart, Abdelmalek Sellal have agreed to accelerate the Viet Nam-Algeria relations to a new height on par with the sound bilateral political ties.

The two leaders made the agreement during a talks held in Algers on June 1.

PM Sellal affirmed the significance of PM Dung’s visit, saying it is a milestone and a turning point in the traditional friendship between the two nations which have always supported each other.

The host leader extended his admiration and congratulations to Viet Nam on great achievements in the renewal process, socio-economic development and international integration.

PM Dung expressed his pleasure to visit the African country for the first time and his gratitude to warm reception by the host country’s leaders and people.

He affirmed that Viet Nam always treasures Algeria’s support during war time and the country’s post-war reconstruction.

The two leaders informed each other on situation of each country, the region and the world.

Both agreed that the traditional friendship and multi-faceted cooperation between the two countries have seen sound developments though results are still limited, not on par with potential and expectations of both sides.

They noted that both sides should build partnership with new cooperation frameworks and models which are more appropriate and effective.

The two PMs agreed to enhance high-level delegation exchanges and meetings, boost coordination and support for each other in international organizations and forums and foster directions on improving efficiency of the Inter-Governmental Cooperation Committee.

Regarding issues in the East Sea, PM Sellal affirmed that Algeria always supports solutions to disputes through peaceful means in accordance with international laws and through dialogues to narrow divergences, saying that Algeria is always consistent to the stance and ready to make contributions to resolving peacefully disputes, including the East Sea issue.

In terms of economic cooperation, trade and investment, the two PMs agreed to raise the bilateral trade turnover to US$1 billion from the current US$250 million; facilitate businesses of both sides to collaborate and carry out specific projects in industry, agriculture, food processing, oil and gas, mining, textile and garment, infrastructure construction, financing, banking, IT, and tourism.

PM Sellal said that Algeria wanted Viet Nam’s support in recovering the African country’s garment, textile and food processing while offering 20,000-30,000ha for rice planting and breeding project.

PM Dung expressed his gratitude to Algeria for the recognition on Viet Nam’s market economy and his support to Algeria’s admission to the World Trade Organization.

The two PMs also agreed to enhance cooperation in labor, education and training, health care, culture, arts, sports, justice, defense, military techniques, security, intelligence, anti-terrorism, and crime prevention.

They would assign relevant agencies of each country to review and evaluate signed agreements for appropriate supplements and amendments.

After the talks, the two PMs witnessed the signing ceremony of a number of documents on tourism, cultural and medical cooperation.
