In his meeting with Sichuan’s Party Secretary Liu Qibao in Chengdu City, PM Nguyễn Tấn Dũng highly spoke of socio-economic achievements of Sichuan in recent years and the province’s efforts to mitigate consequences of the deadly quake in May 2008.

Sichuan is a province of 88 million residents, functioning as the center of Western China. The province and Việt Nam share great potentials of cooperation. In 2008, Sichuan earned US $330 million by exporting to Việt Nam electronic goods, leather shoes, garments. It also spent US $230 million on semi-conducting products and electro-mechanical goods.

The Vietnamese PM asserted that the two sides should take measures to promote cooperation and bring new depth and focus to their relations as well as to the strategic partnership between Việt Nam and China.

Secretary Liu showed his confidence that the visit made by PM Nguyễn Tấn Dũng and the high-ranking delegation of the Government of Việt Nam is an important event which reflects Việt Nam’s special interest in consolidating and strengthening the friendship and cooperation with China in general and Sichuan in particular.

Sichuan will deepen economic, trade, investment and tourism cooperation with Việt Nam’s localities, stated Secretary Liu.
