PM Phuc to chat with business community on Saturday

VGP – PM Nguyen Xuan Phuc will chat with the business circle through video-conference on May 9 to seek ways to improve business climate.

May 07, 2020 4:48 PM GMT+7

Deputy Minister of Planning and Investment Vu Dai Thang was quoted as saying that the video-teleconference is expected to collect initiatives for the Government and PM to introduce appropriate policies and key strategies in favor of economic growth in post-Covid-19 period.

High on the event’s agenda will include general assessment of COVID-19 impacts on performance of the business community, evaluation of supportive policies for businesses, identification of opportunities in new period, major changes caused by the pandemic.

Ministries, sectors, and localities are expected to put forward necessary solutions and measures to support business recovery and development in post pandemic period.

Earlier, the General Statistics Office reported that 86% of enterprises were negatively impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic with revenues falling sharply by 74.1% in Q1.

In addition, enterprises are bearing heavy regular burdens such as wages, land lease, loans, and labors-related costs.

On May 7, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc has ordered prompt resumption of socio-economic activities after drastic measures have helped push back COVID-19 outbreaks.

Though the International Monetary Fund had forecasted that the Vietnamese economy may enjoy the highest growth in Southeast Asia this year, with 2.7%, Phuc called for doubling efforts to achieve growth rate of 5% in order to ease pressure on job creation, poverty reduction and social security guarantee.

He also challenged authorities to keep inflation below 4% and disburse VND700 trillion (US$29.7 billion) of public investment capital this year./.
