The Action Plan is expected to make people be conscious of the consequences of war while calling upon domestic and foreign assistance in favor of bomb and landmine victims.

First of all, the Plan sets a target to investigate; survey and compose a map on unexploded ordnances (UXOs) nationwide in the said five-year period.

There will be six component projects to design a national technical standards system for bomb and mine clearance; establish a data center in charge of collecting and managing information of victims, contamination, and solutions; clear UXO to serve socio-economic development and secure residents’ safety; and assist victims and local residents in relocating to safer areas.

In addition, the Plan also targets to help raise public awareness of the dangers of UXO and mobilize international contribution for these activities.

In the period of 2016-2025, bomb and mine clearance activities will be promoted in the total area of around 800,000 hectares.

It is reported that there have been over 22,000 victims of UXO of which 10,529 were dead and 12,231 were injured in the six central provinces, namely Nghệ An, Hà Tĩnh, Quảng Bình, Quảng Trị, Thừa Thiên-Huế and Quảng Ngãi.
