Attending the meeting, PM Nguyen Tan Dung highly appraised the efforts made by the sector.

“Amidst economic difficulties in 2012, we did not cut any expenditure for social welfare… The social welfare achievements have helped to maintain social stability,” said the PM.

The PM agreed with the sector’s missions and goals set for 2013, such as creating 1.6 million new jobs, increasing the number of laborers joining social insurance to 11.146 million ones, providing vocational training courses for 1.9 million ones, reducing 2% of poor households and 4% of poor districts nationwide compared to 2012, and detoxifying for 50,000 drug addicts.

The Ministry needs to stabilize livelihood of local people affected by natural calamities, realize children’s rights as well as guarantee the equality for women in socio-economic activities, PM Dung added.

PM Dung asked the Ministry to drastically promote poverty reduction through providing supports to poor households, especially in remote and ethnic minority areas.

He also urged the Ministry to pay attention to vocational training and job generation for rural laborers. Accordingly, rural labourers should be trained in their current work to have better productivity.

The delivery of guest workers to foreign countries should be effectively conducted through carefully selecting labor markets and creating favorable for these people to earn higher incomes. At the same time, foreign laborers working in Viet Nam should be closely managed, stressed the PM.

The Government chief also reminded the Ministry to place importance on labor safety, securing child and women’s rights and interests, and well preparing for the upcoming Lunar New Year festival.
