PM attends national congress of VN Union of Science and Technology Associations

VGP – On the morning of December 25, the eighth National Congress of the Viet Nam Union of Science and Technology Associations (VUSTA) (2020-2025 tenure) officially opened in Ha Noi with the participation of more than 900 delegates representing over three million science-technology intellectuals across the country.

Among the attendants are Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc; Vo Van Thuong, Politburo member and Head of the Party Central Committee (PCC)’s Communication and Education Commission; Nguyen Van Binh, Politburo member and Head of the PCC’s Economic Commission; Tran Thanh Man, President of the Viet Nam Fatherland Front Central Committee; Nguyen Xuan Thang, Chairman of the Central Theoretical Council and Director of Ho Chi Minh National Academy of Politics; and Vice Chairman of the National Assembly Phung Quoc Hien.

In his opening remarks, VUSTA Chairman Dang Vu Minh said that the congress will listen, discuss and vote to approve the political report “Promoting the spirit of solidarity and creativity among science-technology (S&T) intellectuals, renovating and improving VUSTA’s operational quality, and strongly developing the union for the cause of national construction and defense”. In addition, the congress will elect leaders of VUSTA for the coming term.

By the end of the 2015-2020 tenure, VUSTA, which is a socio-political organization, has 152 member associations, an increase of 12 compared to the beginning of the tenure.

VUSTA is organized and operates under the principle of voluntarism and democracy.

Its missions include gathering and uniting Vietnamese intellectuals in science and technology inside and outside the country, coordinating and guiding the operations of member associations, acting as a bridge between member associations with the bodies of the Party, State and Viet Nam Fatherland Front and other organizations to tackle common issues for the VUSTA intellectuals.

It also represents and protects the legal rights and interests of its members, member associations, and Vietnamese intellectuals in science and technology./.
