After 25 years of renovation, a series of emulation movements have been introduced nationwide to this sector with comprehensive and great achievements attained.
Agricultural production posted an annual average growth of 3.6% over the past ten years which helped secure the country’s food security.
Last year, farm produce export turnover reached US $ 20 billion, with six products entering the country’s “club of high export value earners” (more than US $1 billion).
Along with these significant achievements, rural economic structure has shifted progressively with service sector accounting for 60%, and poverty incidents in rural areas have reduced remarkably.
However, agriculture products remain low competitive and are yet to secure sustainable development. Investment for agriculture has been scattered, resulting in a high rate of poor households, particularly in most disadvantaged regions.
To achieve the targets of the movement, PM Dũng urged inferior levels to regard the creation of new-style rural areas as a requirement for sustainable development and an urgent task.
The national target program on building new rural areas must be translated into concrete roadmaps and measures, he requested.
The Government chief affirmed that the Party and State always attach importance to creating preferential policies for the development of agriculture, rural areas and peasantry.
The emulation movement is scheduled to last till 2020.
