The Government chief made the point on June 25 while attending a conference of the Ministry of Public Security to review operation performance in the first half.

Minister of Public Security To Lam reported that the world and region witnessed complicated situations in the first half especially due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

In the January-June period, the ministry focused on building the National Database on Population and launched a campaign to collect weapons and explosive materials held in the community.

Especially, policemen served as the frontline force to early detect and prevent COVID-19 infection cases and ensure security and social order.

In addition, they worked to pull down the number of crimes by 8.4%; discovered 19,720 criminal cases and captured 45,004 criminals.

In the second half, the pandemic may continue to cause negative impacts on the society and economy, posing new requirements for national protection and social security.

PM Phuc lauded the force’s achievements and sacrifice in ensuring security and political stability amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

He tasked the police force to safeguard security for the 13th National Party Congress, events within the 2020 ASEAN Chairmanship./.
