PM chairs monthly Cabinet meeting for August

VGP – PM Nguyen Xuan Phuc is chairing the Government monthly meeting for August on August 30, focusing on the socio-economic performances in August and over the recent eight months of 2018.

Besides socio-economic performances in 2018, the Government members will discuss the socio-economic development plan for 2019, some mid-term reports and other crucial contents. 

According to the report of the Ministry of Planning and Investment, the Consumer Price Index (CPI) increased 0.45% against the previous month. The Index of Industrial Production (IIP) rose 11.2% while the nation enjoyed a trade surplus of US$2.8 billion. 

The total retail sales and services revenues were estimated at VND2.860 trillion, a year-on-year increase of 11.2%. 

The total number of foreign visitors to Viet Nam was recorded at 10.4 million, up 22.8%. 

As many as 87,000 new firms were set up in eight months, up 2.4% in the number and 6.9% in capital compared to the same period last year. 

The total realized foreign-invested capital attained US$11.25 billion, a year-on-year increase of 9.2%. 

At his opening speech, PM Phuc asked the Ministries of Industry and Trade and Agriculture and Rural Development to take measures to address issues related to physical damage caused by floods and rains, reduction in agricultural products’ prices, fire and traffic accidents.

The Government leader said that the GDP growth in 2018 may reach more than 6.7% and budget revenue can exceed 3-5% of the forecasted plan and inflation rate may be kept under 4%, adding that all the 12 socio-economic development goals set by the National Assembly for 2018 can be achieved.

He proposed the Government members discuss goals and orientations for 2019 and the 2019-2021 phase.
