VGP –Viet Nam’s participation in APEC on November 25, 1998 has created a crucial mark for the comprehensive development of the nation in all aspects, setting up a foundation for its dynamic and positive integration.

PM Nguyen Xuan Phuc made the statement in an article he wrote on the occasion of the 2017 APEC Economic Leaders’ Week.

PM Nguyen Xuan Phuc highlighted the nation’s achievements over the past 30 years, citing an average annual growth of 7%, Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) totaling US$310 billion as well as the establishment of strategic partnership and comprehensive partnership with 26 partners and the signing of 16 Free Trade Agreements.

In the context of globalization and the fourth industrial revolution, the Vietnamese Government has concentrated on setting up a flexible management mechanism and a transparent market, protecting benefits of businesses, and enhancing creativity.

The nation has created competitive advantages in fields of institution, policy, infrastructure, finance, educational reform, human resources improvement, and quality health and social insurance systems.

Viet Nam expects to realize the goal of establishing one million enterprises by 2020 and raising the competitiveness and integration capacity of the private sector along with other economic sectors.

In addition, the nation actively seeks to address issues affecting its integration process such as tax evasion, backward technology, protectionism and terrorism and realize the global agreements on sustainable development, climate change adaption and making contribution to setting up and forming multi-lateral institutions, especially cooperative mechanisms in the Asia-Pacific region.

Viet Nam has transformed its growth model to a quality, inclusive and sustainable one by pursuing the Sustainable Development Goals and accomplishing its commitments in the COP-21 Paris on limiting gas emission and protecting the environment.

The PM suggests that the economic cooperation framework of future APEC needs to be expanded to other non-economic areas such as culture, the environment, science-technology and education, with human development being placed at the center and regarded as an impetus to decide new cooperative frameworks and structures.

APEC members should join hands to seek creative approaches to create high consensus for joint benefits in line with the international regulations.

Viet Nam welcomes all leaders from APEC member economies to attend the APEC High Level Week in the central city of Da Nang. The event creates an opportunity for Viet Nam to promote its trade liberalization process and other economies to comprehend the people, investment and business environment in Viet Nam.

The PM expects that leaders from 21 APEC economies will propose optimal solutions to "creating new dynamism, fostering a shared future".'/.
