PM okays extension of flu prevention agreements

VGP – The PM has agreed to extend the duration of funding agreements for the Việt Nam Avian and Human Influenza Control and Preparedness Project (VAHIP) from June 6, 2011 to December 31, 2011.

The PM has assigned the State Bank of Việt Nam to complete necessary procedures related to the extension with the World Bank.

The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development and the Ministry of Health will approve operation plans within extension time and supervise the implementation and disbursement of funding of the project.

VAHIP is conducted in 11 localities, namely Lạng Sơn, Hà Nội, Thái Bình, Thanh Hóa, Hà Tĩnh, Thừa Thiên Huế, Bình Định, Tây Ninh, Long An, Tiền Giang and Đồng Tháp.

The project aims to better the capacity of veterinary and health services to minimize health risks caused by bird flu for people, prevent, prepare for, and respond to possible bird flu epidemics./.
