Both leaders expressed delight over recent progress in bilateral ties, which had culminated in the China visit made recently by Party General Secretary Nguyễn Phú Trọng. They agreed to closely coordinate preparations for the upcoming official visit to Việt Nam by Chinese Party Politburo member and Vice President Xi Jinping.

PM Dũng said Việt Nam values the traditional friendship with China, suggesting both sides work together to strictly implement the agreements reached during party leader Nguyễn Phú Trọng’s visit to China,  particularly the Agreement on basic principles guiding the settlement of sea issues, which govern the peaceful settlement of sea disputes based on respect of international laws, including the 1982 UN Convention on the Law of Sea, the Declaration on the Code of Conduct of Parties in the East Sea (DOC) and the formulation of the Code of Conduct of Parties involved in the East Sea (COC).

Both sides agreed on the need to uphold the role of the Steering Committee for Bilateral Cooperation to realize top leaders’ mutual awareness, including the implementation of the 5 year plan on Việt Nam-China economic and trade cooperation from 2011 to 2016 and to boost friendly exchanges and comprehensive cooperation between the two countries.

State Councilor Dai Bingguo reiterated that Chinese high ranking leaders treasure the overall friendly relations with Việt Nam and are determined to discuss and settle satisfactorily sea-related issues with Việt Nam for a stable and healthy relationship between the two countries. He added China is willing to join ASEAN in implementing DOC and launching negotiations for COC.

Both leaders shared viewpoints on measures to deepen the Việt Nam-China Comprehensive Strategic Partnership and to contribute to regional peace, friendship and cooperation.
