PM urges army to be active in pushing back war dangers

VGP – Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc urged the Viet Nam People’s Army to be active in preventing and pushing back war dangers to maintain a peaceful and stable environment for national development.

The Government chief stressed the point on Saturday while addressing a ceremony to mark 75th founding anniversary of the Viet Nam People's Army (December 22, 1944-December 22, 2019).

The army must continue thoroughly grasping and fruitfully implementing the guidelines, viewpoints and policies of the Party and State on developing and consolidating all-people defense that has the nature of peace and self-defense.

Phuc underlined that training must be further strengthened to ensure that military officers and soldiers have firm stuff and master modern military equipment and weapons.

Along with improving combat readiness, the army must continue play a key role in preventing and overcoming consequences of national calamities, environmental disasters, and rescue work, said Phuc

The army also needs to continue expanding bilateral and multilateral defense cooperation with foreign partners and actively participate in the United Nations peace-keeping operations in order to contribute to effectively deploying Viet Nam’s foreign policy and to enhancing mutual understanding and trust between Viet Nam and other countries.

In his remarks, Gen. Ngo Xuan Lich, Vice Secretary of the Central Military Commission and Minister of National Defense, expressed deep gratitude to President Ho Chi Minh – the “beloved Father” of the people’s armed forces, Gen. Vo Nguyen Giap – the “Eldest Brother” of the VPA and an outstanding commander-in-chief, along with historical leaders, national heroes, martyrs and people who heroically fought and sacrificed for the sake of the country’s independence and freedom, the people’s happiness, and the lofty international missions.

He acknowledged the nationwide people’s joint efforts to build strong all-people defense, along with the precious support from the militaries and people of other countries for the Vietnamese army and people in the struggle for national liberation in the past and national development and safeguarding at present.

Officers and soldiers of the whole army pledge to be absolutely loyal to the Party, State, people and socialist regime. They are determined to successfully perform the army’s functions and forever be a special political force, an absolutely loyal combatant force, and the core force in joining the people to firmly safeguard the nation, Lich affirmed.

Also at the ceremony, PM Phuc bestowed the first-class Military Exploit Order to the Viet Nam People’s Army./.
