On the 4th day of his official visit to the Netherlands, PM Dũng heard Dutch experience in delta planning, and responses to sea level rise and water management.

Under the Delta project, which was carried out from 1958 to 2002, the Dutch established the world’s best dyke system to prevent sea waves and floods. The system is strong enough to withhold powerful storm, which occurs just once in a thousand year. About 3,000km of sea dykes and 10,000km of dykes encircling rivers and canals were built up higher, while local rive mouths were closed.

Apart from setting up control and maintenance mode, the Dutch also use an automatic dyke monitoring system. Fiber optic and electronic sensors were installed to detect changes inside the dyke as well as to monitor pressure or water level.

The Netherlands over the recent past has assisted Việt Nam a great deal in climate change responses and water management, including flood prevention.
