PM’s first activities in Shanghai

VGP – Vietnamese PM Nguyễn Tấn Dũng today arrived in Shanghai where he plans to attend the opening ceremony of the Shanghai 2010 Expo in his official visit to the Chinese city.

PM Nguyễn Tấn Dũng on Friday had a meeting with Shanghai’s Party Secretary Yu Zhengsheng who described the visit an important event showing Việt Nam’s interest in strengthening the strategic partnership for comprehensive cooperation with China in general and Shanghai in particular.

Confirming that his visit aims at promoting the cooperation for mutual benefit between the two sides, PM Dũng also shared his view with the host about measures to bring the cooperation to new heights, especially in investment, trade, education, culture and tourism.

The two sides agreed to expand relations between Vietnamese ministries, agencies and localities and Shanghai. Accordingly, Việt Nam will open its consulate general in Shanghai.

The same day, PM Dũng visited the Transportation Bank, one of the biggest commercial banks in China, with 730,000 company clients and 41 million individual ones.

There, he welcomed the bank for its resumption of operations in Việt Nam after obtaining the State Bank of Việt Nam’s license to open branches in Việt Nam.

PM Dũng also visited the Shanghai Research and Development Center of Huawei Group, the Chinese provider of telecommunications services.

Also in the morning, PM Nguyễn Tấn Dũng attended the launching ceremony of direct flights between Hồ Chí Minh City, Hà Nội and Shanghai with the frequency of 7 flights per week. This is the fifth air route linking Việt Nam and Chinese cities, namely Beijing, Guangzhou, Kunming, Hong Kong, and Shanghai.
