During the six-day event, the Party Central Committee will deliberate on socio-economic performance in 2020 and socio-economic development plan for 2021.

The Committee will also discuss personnel work and draft documents to be submitted to the 13th National Party Congress among other key issues. The plenum took place in the context of swift and complicated evolution of the COVID-19 pandemic which has posed great challenges to economies around the world.

Despite such backdrop, Vietnamese economy still expanded 2.62% in the 3rd quarter this year and 2.12% in January-September period, according to the General Statistics Office.

Viet Nam is the only ASEAN country to have attained positive GDP growth rate thanks to recovery of key sectors like manufacturing, agriculture, and finance-banking, said Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc at the Cabinet meeting last week.

Given positive signals in the first nine months, the Government vowed to strive for the GDP growth rate of 2.5-3% this year./.
