Party General Secretary Trọng to visit Laos

VGP – Party Secretary General and NA Chairman Nguyễn Phú Trọng and his spouse will pay an official visit to Laos from June 20-22, the Commission for External Relations of the Communist Party of Vietnam Central Committee announced Monday.

The visit is made at the invitation of the General Secretary of the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party and President of the Lao People’s Democratic Republic, Choummaly Sayasone, and his spouse.

The special relationship between Việt Nam and Laos has been flourishing during the past time. Two-way trade volume reached US $490 million in 2010, an increase of 17.2% against the same period of 2009. Of the figure, Việt Nam shipped US $198 million in goods and made imports of US $292 million.

Việt Nam is currently one of the top foreign investors in Laos. During 2006 – 2010, Việt Nam had 190 projects with total registered capital of over US $2.6 billion, or 21 times higher than the figure in the 2001 – 2005 period.
