Party chief: Corruption fighting must get better in 2019

VGP – Party General Secretary, State President Nguyen Phu Trong requested that the fight against corruption must attain better outcomes in 2019.

The Party chief made the request on January 21 in Ha Noi while attending a meeting the Central Steering Committee for Anti-corruption on operation in 2018 and key tasks for 2019. 

The Party Central Committee, the Politburo, the Secretariat issued resolutions, directives, and regulations on anti-corruption. 

The National Assembly and Government introduced a series of documents to perfect socio-economic regulations on anti-corruption and resolve legal loopholes for corruption and group benefits. 

Specifically, since the beginning of this term, the National Assembly passed 45 laws and ordinances and 46 resolutions; the Government issued 511 decrees, 413 resolutions, 160 decisions to strengthen state management efficiency; contributing to preventing corruption. 

The investigation, prosecution, and settlement of corruption cases were implemented synchronously. 

In 2018, over 650 deputies were disciplined for corruption charges. Nearly VND 108 trillion of financial fines were collected and 1,000 hectares of land were reclaimed. 

Addressing the event, the Party chief stressed the importance of accelerating legal making progress on socio-economic management and anti-corruption; effectively realizing regulations of the Party and State on anti-corruption; and strengthening investigations in fields which draw much public opinion; handling large-scale corruption cases; timely discovering new cases. 

In 2019, the Central Steering Committee will finalize investigation progress of 21 corruption cases; prosecute 22 others./.
